What is the Oliver McGowan Training
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is the government-standardised training designed to improve understanding, awareness, and support for people with a learning disability and autistic people. This course is accessed via our learning platform eLfH and was added to our mandatory training list two years ago.
Who needs to complete this training?
All staff that are engaging with clients whether that be in-person or via the phone.
Why am I hearing about this training now?
We originally had this training down as a one off, however guidance recommends that we repeat this training once every three years. The training spreadsheet (line managers have access to), has been updated to reflect the change in frequency.
I work directly with clients with learning disabilities and / or autism
I am liaising with heads of service to identify staff that are working directly with this cohort. For these individuals, part 2 of the Oliver McGowan training would be applicable.
What action do I need to take?
If you have not yet completed the Oliver McGowan mandatory training on Learning Disability and Autism, please do so via your eLfH account. Once completed, pass on your completion date to your line manager to be updated on our training spreadsheet.
