National Numeracy Challenge

What do you think of when you hear the word ‘maths’?! Some of the most common responses to this word are panic, anxiety ,confusion and fear!
Maths anxiety is probably more common than you think and there can be many reasons for this including negative experiences at school, a fear of failure or just being told ‘you’re not a maths person’. And if you feel like you struggle with numeracy, you’re not alone; a recent study found 78% of adults are working below Level 2 (Grade C/4 at GCSE).
Despite this, we come across numbers every day – not just in the workplace, but this can extend to money management, or helping your children with their homework.
I recently attended a training session run by the charity National Numeracy to become a National Numeracy Champion, with the aim to raise awareness of so-called ‘maths anxiety’ in the workplace and improve people’s confidence with numbers. As someone who considers themselves to lack confidence with maths, a lot of the content and support National Numeracy provides really resonated with me!
Want to test your skills? Take the National Numeracy Challenge here!
The National Numeracy Challenge is a free, online learning tool designed to help you improve your everyday maths skills in manageable steps whilst building your number confidence. The link above is unique to Thrive Tribe employees – and if more than 20 learners sign up for the Challenge before the 31st March then the organisation gets put into a prize draw!
