The Tour De Thrive Tribe - July's Challenge!
Karl
The weather is warm, the roads are dry and the evenings long at the moment, so we thought why not hold our own version of the Tour De France! So we have created the Tour De Thrive Fest!
Throughout July (starting July 1st), we are aiming to complete the equivalent distance of this years Tour De France - 2,118 miles, or 3,409 kilometers! We'd love to get as many of our incredible people involved in this challenge as possible! So please break out the lycra shorts, pump up your tires and lets virtually hit the road together (the lycra is optional)!
How do I take part in The Tour De Thrive Tribe challenge?
We've tried to make it as easy as possible for you, but you will need a free Strava account to record your distance. Here are the steps to get you under way:
- Create a Strava Account, (If you don't have an account yet, it's really simple to get a free one, and you can do so here).
- Join the Tour De Thrive Tribe challenge club with this link
- Use your fitness watch OR smart phone to record your distance for all cycling completed in July. (If you don't have the app on your phone already, its a free download available on both Iphone and Android from the respective app stores.
- Make a donation to Tommy's to take part in the challenge. You can donate whatever you would like to, as frequently as you would like to, but we would suggest a minimum of a one off £2 to take part, which will really help us create much needed funds for our Charity Partner - Tommy's. You can make your donation here
That's then it, you are all good to go enjoy the outdoors, do physical activity and raise funds for Tommy's - easy, yet incredible!
A few finer points and FAQ's:
Do I have to cycle outdoor for my milage to count?
No. All cycling activities are included within this challenge, so if you're on the turbo trainer, this counts! If you're in the gym on the bike doing a warm up, or work out, get the app open as this counts too! If you're on any bike, for any reason, it counts! All you will need to do here is use the "add manual entry" in your Strava account ensuring your record it as a"ride".
I like to cycle with a friend or family member, can they join in too?
Yes! We'd love you to continue to cycle together, and also get as many people involved in the challenge as possible. As long as they register and make a donation to Tommy's then their distances will also count towards our total. We would ask though that you don't just ask all your friends at your local cycle club to take part, as 50 extra keen cyclist wouldn't make this much of a challenge for us. For this reason we'd say a maximum of 5 additional people per team member can take part, and these should be close family members, or close friends you.
Do spin classes and virtual cycling classes count?
Absolutely they do. Get them added 😁.
Who from Thrive Tribe or Man V FAT can take part?
Anybody at all. Bank staff and coaches are included in this challenge, so anybody at all can help and take part.
I commute via bike, does this count?
Oh yes! Extra Thrive Tribe green points for travelling to work on your bike too! But yes, the distance will count towards this total.
I don't cycle far, or am worried about my ability.
It honestly doesn't matter! Every meter done, is a meter off the target total distance! And don't worry about the total distance, time taken or any other aspect of your completed distance -this is NOT a competition, it's a collective team effort to complete the set distance over 31 days 😁.
If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with Trev Mealing and he'll happily answer your question.
Thanks all! Stay cool and lets collectively come together to burn calories and to raise some money for Tommy's.

If you've not signed up to take part in this as of yet, but would still like to - it's not too late to take part. You can join the group at any point to help towards the total completed 😀.

I can't believe how many miles we've already completed! Hitting the gym later today, so I'll do some on the bike towards it :)
