Fran’s Marathon Fundraiser

Cassandra

I’m Fran and I work in the child and family team in Nottingham.
On 25th May I’m going to run the Edinburgh marathon! Scary! (Any advice/tips are appreciated :))
I am fundraising for Women in Sport. This was inspired by working with teenage girls in a pilot weight management program in Nottingham.
It seemed that the girls had not really ever been encouraged to be active, meaning they had missed out on the joy and confidence that being active brings.
It was really nice to see them try and enjoy different activities each week.

Women in Sport campaign and influence policies ensuring that women continue to have better access to sport.
Women in Sport conduct research into the barriers that women face in accessing sport. Recent research looks at: stereotypes in sport, how disabled teen girls can be better supported, and how boys can be allies.
Women in Sport have then created guides for parents, teachers and coaches following this research.
I think I would be a completely different person without the privilege of having access to sport but I don’t think it should be a privilege.
I think sport and movement are fundamental to physical and mental wellbeing, and feeling empowered. I hope you agree!
