February - The Month of Kindness

Emma Adkins
Head of Internal Communication

2022 is now well under way, and here in the Employee Experience Team, we’ve been thinking about how to make it a fantastic year. One in which we all thrive!
And we’ve decided to have monthly themes that will be incorporated into our internal communications, Instagram posts and employee events and activities.
We’re kicking off with February being the month of kindness. Acts of kindness have the potential to make the workplace a happier environment. They can boost feelings of confidence, happiness and optimism and encourage others to repeat the good deeds they've experienced themselves. Overall, this all contributes to a more positive workplace. You can find out more about the psychology of kindness and its benefits here.
There will be plenty of ways you can join in throughout the month, particularly during Random Acts of Kindness Week from 14th to20th February.
How you can join in
· Join us for a ‘Coffee & Kindness’ break on Thursday 17th February, which is Random Acts of Kindness Day. Rosie Urry will be sending out a calendar invite, so do look out for this.
· Email me your stories of when someone has been randomly kind to you. No matter how small the gesture, we’d love to hear about it and it will help inspire others.
· Follow @lifeatthrive tribe on Instagram, where we’ll be adding posts and stories on the topic of Kindness and don’t forget to tag us in your own stories
· Keep an eye on Totem for articles throughout the month
· Take a look at The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation website, where there’s lots of information on kindness and tips for things you can do throughout the month. You can even sign up to be a RAKtivist!
· Follow The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation on social media:

In the meantime, why not think of a few small things you can incorporate into your daily life? Hold a door open for someone, check in on someone who may be going through a difficult time, give up a seat for someone who maybe less able to stand. Let’s make kindness the norm.
