Dare to Care - Stories Behind the Dares!

Rosie
Head of People

Last week we reached our first fundraising milestone of £500. Huge thanks to everyone who signed up to complete a dare and to everyone who contributed towards the £500. Here are a few inspiring stories behind the dares that some of the team have signed up to:
Hayley Denman, OYES
‘My dare is a goal! Exactly 2 years ago I had the biggest operation of my life. Exactly 1 year ago I had another operation- both on my pelvis.
I had to learn to walk again and now I can run, smaller distances, but I can run! A half marathon is miles from my original fitness- and will be a HUGE victory for me when completed.’
Alex Marks, OYES
‘I'm signing up to do a litter pick because the truth behind litter, in particular plastic, is that it can take hundreds of years to de-compose and never really leaves our environment. The microplastic it finally breaks down to still ends up in our water and food sources, which we don’t know the long term effects of, as it was only invented 150 years ago. As an Environmental Ambassador for Thrive Tribe, I want to highlight the good that can be achieved from picking up litter and disposing of it responsibly (especially recycling).'
Lisa Dean, OYL
'I run 5k all the time but I have chosen to run my nemesis run through the woods. Four horrendous hills included and there are not many in Lincolnshire! Takes me right out of my flat road running comfort zone.’
Emma Adkins, Central Team
'I’ve committed to completing the 100 Dress Challenge, which means I’ll be wearing the same dress for 100 days in row (I’m able to wash it and don’t have to wear it for my daily exercise). New clothes bought in the UK produce more carbon emissions per minutes than driving a care around the world 6 times, so it’s criminal that many of these clothes only get worn a handful of times. I’m trying to prove that a move from fast fashion to slow fashion is an easy change to make.’
There’s still time to sign up to your own dares right here or to donate to our fundraising target, you can do so right here!
