MAN v FAT: Wrapping up a fantastic 2022
Richard
Head of MAN v FAT
What a year it's been for all involved at MAN v FAT.
As well as increasing our footprint of clubs across the country to over 165 locations, which is almost double the number we had last year we also peaked at 8,500 members this summer. We held our first ever Amazing Losers match, celebrating all those who have lost between 25% and 50%of their body weight with us! On top of that we gave the opportunity to hundreds of men to play in our national finals day at Manchester City’s prestigious Etihad training complex and, for the second year running, the title is to stay in Wales as Swansea Oranges claimed the crown won by Newport just over a year ago.
We also held our very first Coaches Development Day, which was a huge success and brought together Coaches from across the UK in a day of discussion, innovation and learning.
In January we had our first ever TV adverts and later in the year we appeared in Men's Health magazine UK and Germany with a 12-page spread. MAN v FAT Football and MAN v FAT Challenge have had national coverage featuring on local radio stations, magazines adverts and online newspaper articles across the country.
During the month of November, MAN v FAT challenged all our members to get involved with the Movember campaign and encouraged players to get out and move and attempt to get to the World Cup Final venue in Qatar. Whilst doing this, we wanted members to try and raise some much-needed funds for a fantastic cause. An incredible £2,395 was raised and the guys covered a total distance of 4,087kms across 901 activities. A special mention to Sean O’Tauthail, MAN v FAT Margate who raised an impressive £540 and to Team MAN v FAT Margate who came out top as a total team raising £1,350.
Our individual distance winner was Adam Cree, who plays at MAN v FAT Middlesbrough, who covered 1,293kms by cycling, whilst Allan Steel(MAN v FAT Lincoln) covered the most distance by a range of methods, covering276km! Team Middlesbrough also took the crown for total distance covered as a team spanning 3332kms!
2022 saw massive success for men taking part in our digital weight loss programme MAN v FAT Challenge, with a mind-blowing total of217 stone (!) of weight lost across our members. 85% of members lost weight and21% lost 5% of their total body weight. One of our British Steel members made the headlines in Scunthorpe losing an incredible 6 stone in just one season (14weeks) on the programme, donating £100 to Lyndsey Lodge Hospice and Healthcare, which we matched in support of his incredible journey.
We ended our year on a high wrapping up all our members' success across the country, Spotify style! A whopping 29,965kg worth of weight was lost by our community this year with our Central region losing5,639.1kg, North region losing 8,135.7kg, South-East region losing 7984kg and finally the South-West region losing 8,205.1kg.
We’re really close to celebrating our next landmark of500,00lbs lost by our incredible members - watch this space as we’ll becelebrating in the early part of 2023.
If you thought 2022 was good, 2023 will be even bigger andbetter than you can imagine!
Exciting times ahead!
