A reminder about captioning webinars...

With webinars and online training here to stay it’s so important that we are utilising the captioning/subtitle functionality on all sessions we run, both internally and externally!
There are a whole host of benefits to captioning your webinar or training session;
- Accessibility – For attendees who are hard of hearing and those where English is their second language, captions are essential to reduce anxiety, improve comprehension and ensure everyone is able to access the information being provided.
- Transcripts – Captions turn speech to text in real time, creating a transcript of dialogue which can then be accessed after the webinar or training session has ended. This means that subtitles will be available to those who are watching a recording of the session at a later date.
- Environment – The beauty of online training/webinars is that attendees can tune in regardless of their geographical location. Enabling captions means that everyone can participant no matter where they are, for instance for those dialling in from a crowded or noisy environment (or perhaps a library where silence is necessary) captions are a must!
The BE-IN group – our Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility employee forum – have created a handy guide on how to use the captioning and translation functionality in Zoom which you can access here!
